Pas d’estimations fiables des réserves, d’après le gouvernement il y aurait 39 ans de consommation. Selon d’autres sources il n’y aurait rien à exploiter. « L’association espagnole des compagnies d’exploration et production d’hydrocarbures et de stockage souterrain » estime dans un rapport une disponibilité de 2,05 milliards de mètres cubes de gaz, 80% de cette quantité se trouvant dans les schistes.

Pas encore de forages, mais 70 permis d’exploration ont été attribués et 60 sont en attente.

No reliable estimations of shale gas reserves, 39 years according to the government, nothing at all according to others. According to a report by the Spanish Association of Companies in Investigation, Exploration & Production of Hydrocarbons and Underground Storage (Asociación Española de Compañías de Investigación, Exploración, Producción de Hidrocarburos y Almacenamiento Subterráneo, ACIEP), the estimated reserves of natural gas are about 2.05 trillion cubic meters. 80% of these would be found in the shale rock.
No test-drills yet, shale gas should be found under the northern half of the country : 70 permits handed out, 60 others on the « waiting list ».
